To change your Wi-Fi password, check whether the router is online, or update its firmware, you open its settings page in a browser - and for that you need the router's IP address. On a home network this is also called the default gateway. It is usually something like 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1, but it varies by brand and provider, so check it on a device that is connected to the router.
The quickest way:
ipconfig
Without commands: open Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center, click your connection next to Connections, then Details. The router is listed as IPv4 Default Gateway.
In Terminal, this command prints it too:
route -n get default
Look for the gateway line.
Open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the i next to the connected network, and scroll to Router.
Menus vary by phone maker. On Pixel and phones with standard Android: Settings > Network & internet > Internet, tap the gear next to the connected network, and look for Gateway (sometimes under Network details or Advanced). On Samsung Galaxy, open Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi, tap the gear next to the network, and open View more or the IP settings. If your phone does not show it, use a computer instead.
192.168.1.1) and press Enter. Many newer routers are managed with an app from the maker or your internet provider; the label usually says so.
If you cannot check on a device, these are the most common defaults to try: 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.254, 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.138. The router's label or manual has the correct one for your model.
With the settings page open, the Internet or WAN status tells you whether the router itself is online - the key step in router connected but no internet. If only one device has trouble, see Wi-Fi connected but no internet.
It is the default gateway of your network - often 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1, but it varies. Check it on a connected device with the steps in this guide or on the label on the router.
No. The router IP (like 192.168.1.1) is its address inside your home network. Your public IP is the address websites see, assigned by your internet provider.
Make sure you are connected to that router's network, type the address with no www, and try http:// in front of it. If it still fails, restart the router, or check its label for a web address or app to use instead.
