Most people never clean their downloads folder.
Open Files or My Files app.
Navigate to Downloads.
Delete everything you don't need (most of it).
Cache is temporary files that apps store. It can grow to several gigabytes.
Android: Settings > Apps > [App] > Storage > Clear Cache.
iPhone: Offload App (Settings > General > iPhone Storage > [App] > Offload App).
Voice memos are easy to forget but take up significant space.
Open Voice Memos app.
Delete recordings you no longer need.
Check Recently Deleted folder and empty it.
WhatsApp automatically downloads media to your phone.
Open WhatsApp > Settings > Storage and Data > Manage Storage.
Delete large files and forwarded videos.
Deleted photos and videos sit in a hidden folder for 30 days.
Open Photos app.
Go to Albums > Recently Deleted.
Delete everything there permanently.
Most people have hundreds of duplicate photos.
iPhone: Photos > Albums > Duplicates (iOS 16+).
Android: Use Google Files app (free) which finds duplicates.
You probably have 20+ apps you never open.
Go to Settings > Apps.
Sort by "Last Used" or "Last Opened."
Uninstall anything unused for over 6 months.
Offline content is convenient but consumes massive storage.
Google Maps: Offline maps > Delete outdated ones.
Spotify/Apple Music: Downloaded playlists > Remove downloads.
Browsers store website data that accumulates over time.
Chrome: Settings > Privacy > Clear Browsing Data > Cached images.
Safari: Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data.
Telegram, Signal, and WhatsApp store videos you received.
Check each messaging app's storage settings.
Delete videos you've already watched.
Screenshots are often kept forever but rarely needed.
Search your phone for "screenshot."
Delete any that are no longer relevant.
Podcast apps automatically download new episodes.
Open your podcast app.
Delete played episodes.
Turn off auto-download for shows you don't binge.
Downloaded archives are useless after extraction.
Search your phone for ".zip" and ".rar."
Delete all results.
If nothing works and you're still out of space, start fresh.
Back up photos and contacts first.
Settings > System > Reset Options > Factory Reset.
Restore only what you truly need.
Full storage is usually caused by cache files, old downloads, and forgotten app data. Start with clearing app cache and checking Recently Deleted. You'll likely free up 5-10GB in under 10 minutes.
