You spend hours editing Reels, but Instagram shows them to almost no one. The algorithm has changed. Here's what actually works in 2026.
Instagram suppresses Reels that appear to be reposted from TikTok.
Download TikTok videos without watermark (many free tools exist).
Or record natively in Instagram.
Using popular songs from your library doesn't help.
Open Reels tab.
Tap the audio name at the bottom.
Look for audio with 10k-500k uses (not millions).
Instagram needs to know what your Reel is about immediately.
Add 3-5 words of context at the very beginning.
Example: "How to fix iPhone battery" not just a video of a phone.
Posting at 2 AM guarantees low initial engagement.
Go to Insights > Total Followers.
Check "Most active times."
Post 30 minutes before that time.
Instagram favors completion rate over watch time.
Reels under 10 seconds feel low effort.
Reels over 30 seconds lose viewers.
15-20 seconds is the current sweet spot.
This sounds counterintuitive but works.
When posting, toggle OFF "Also share to Reels."
Your followers see it first, giving initial engagement.
If it performs well, Instagram pushes it to non-followers anyway.
Broad hashtags like #reels or #instagram bury your content.
Use specific hashtags relevant to your exact topic.
Example: #coffeerecipe instead of #coffee.
Comments and shares signal quality to the algorithm.
Say "Save this for later" or "Tag someone who needs this."
Ask a question to encourage comments.
Remixing existing popular content gives you a boost.
Find a Reel in your niche with 500k+ views.
Tap the three dots > Remix This Reel.
Add your own commentary or demonstration.
These hashtags are filled with bots and spam.
Instagram may shadowban accounts that use them.
Remove them from all future posts.
Daily posting leads to burnout and lower quality.
Consistency beats frequency.
Post 3 high-quality Reels per week on a schedule.
Instagram watches how quickly you respond to comments.
Reply to every comment in the first 15 minutes.
Like and comment on 5-10 other Reels in your niche.
Your account may be restricted without notification.
Post a Reel with a unique hashtag (e.g., #test12345yourname).
Search that hashtag from another account.
If your Reel doesn't appear, you're shadowbanned.
Low Reels views usually mean wrong audio, bad posting times, or shadowban issues. Use trending audio with 10k-500k uses, post when followers are active, and never repost TikTok watermarks.
