You connect your iPhone to a Windows 11 PC to copy photos or make a backup, but nothing happens - it charges, yet it doesn't appear in File Explorer, the Photos app or the Apple Devices app. These steps follow Apple's own troubleshooting for a computer that doesn't recognize an iPhone, plus the Windows side of the fix.
The iPhone won't share anything while it's locked or before you trust the PC. If you tapped Don't Trust by mistake, or the prompt never appears, reset it: on the iPhone go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy. Then connect it again and tap Trust. (This also resets which apps may use your location, so you'll be asked again in those apps.)
Apple's advice: if the iPhone doesn't chime or vibrate when you plug it in, check the connection.
If no USB device works in that port, see USB ports not working on laptop.
On Windows 10 and 11, Apple's Apple Devices app (free in the Microsoft Store) is used to back up, update and restore an iPhone, and it installs the USB support Windows needs to talk to the iPhone.
If you still use iTunes for music, you can keep it - but the Apple Devices app handles the iPhone itself.
Apple lists outdated software as a cause. Install updates on both sides:
Restart both devices afterwards.
The Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) lets Apple's software on Windows detect an iPhone. Apple recommends restarting it when the iPhone isn't recognized:
services.msc and press Enter.Once the iPhone is recognized:

If the iPhone doesn't appear on any computer, with any cable, and doesn't charge reliably either, the port may be damaged - contact Apple Support or an authorized service provider. If it's the battery that's the concern, see 10 fixes for iPhone battery draining fast. For Android phones, see Android phone not showing up on PC.
Usually the iPhone is locked, you haven't tapped Trust, or the cable only charges. Unlock the iPhone, connect it with a cable that supports data, and tap Trust when asked.
On the iPhone go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy, then reconnect the iPhone to the PC.
Apple now offers the Apple Devices app from the Microsoft Store to back up, update and sync an iPhone on Windows. To copy photos you only need the Windows Photos app or File Explorer.
The iPhone is locked, or Trust wasn't granted. If you use iCloud Photos with Optimize iPhone Storage, full-size originals may be in iCloud rather than on the phone.
